LA Marathon

LA Marathon Course

The course is referred to as “the stadium to the sea” because it starts at the famous Dodger Stadium and concludes on the beach in beautiful Santa Monica. Points in between include:

  • Downtown LA
  • Hollywood Blvd.
  • Sunset Strip
  • West Hollywood
  • Rodeo Drive
  • Ocean Avenue

The Los Angeles Marathon gives you a runner’s view of all the exciting hot spots in the city, as well as a couple in neighboring cities. You can always turn the event into a vacation to spend more time in the hot spots that catch your interest. There will be runners visiting from around the world, so you won’t be lonely on the trip.

How to Register

You can register online or through mail, but you get a ten dollar discount if you do so online. Prices go up after January 15 and are at their highest if you wait to register the day of the event. Your bib is also personalized with your name if your register before January 15.

All registrations entitle you to refreshments at stands throughout the race and some light snacks offered at the starting line festival.

Training for the LA Marathon

The LA Marathon is unique in that there is a special training group that you may opt to join. It is called the LA Roadrunners Training Program and does come at an expense.

If you are serious about making it through the race with good time and would like dedicated training partners to push you to the end, then you may benefit from becoming a Roadrunner. There are three different LA group locations and more than twenty pace groups, so you can participate whether you are a seasoned pro or complete beginner.

Registration confirmation is available online and racers pick up their starting packets at the Los Angeles Marathon Expo which is hosted the weekend of the race.

Entrance to the Expo comes along with entry into the race. It is a fun place to explore a variety of products that will make your running life easier and you can even pick up free trials and samples of products you have never seen before.

There is also a Carbo Load dinner, which is option and does come as an extra expense.

LA Marathon History

The Los Angeles Marathon has been going for more than twenty-five years and draws thousands of racers from around the world every spring. The inspiration for the race is said to be the Olympic Games, which is fitting considering the challenge of mastering 26.2 miles.

Everyone is welcome in this marathon, including those attempting their very first marathon. The course is open for thirteen hours, but official times are only given to those finishing within eight hours. The official finish line does close down after eight hours to start the celebration.

Since the LA Marathon has such a massive following throughout the U.S. and with runners in other countries, it is best to register and make travel arrangements as early as possible. Hotel rooms start filling up before the end of the previous year.

The closer you get to the race, the more difficulty you may have getting comfortable flights and hotel rooms for the weekend of the big event. You can beat a lot of the traffic in airports by flying in earlier in the preceding week. This gives you a bit of a vacation, plus time to do some training on the streets where the race will be held.

It is definitely the exciting course that brings many runners to the LA Marathon. Lace up those golden sneakers and start training, because your ticket to Hollywood comes with a challenging race to be mastered.
